The life story of Benny "The Jet" Urquidez. Proclaimed by renowned masters to be the greatest pound-for-pound kickboxer of all time, Benny Urquidez was nicknamed "The Jet" because of his explosive spinning back kick. After competing for ten years in non-contact point karate, he pioneered full-contact fighting throughout the world, often fighting in bouts where the rules were ambiguous and contrasts in styles were dramatic. In the 1970s, he won the PKA and WKA World Kickboxing Championships, and then went on to defeat Japan's World Champion. Highlighting his stellar career that spanned two decades, Urquidez came out of semi-retirement at the age of 42 to seal his legendary status by defeating Japan's 25-year-old reigning World Champion. Victorious in six World Championships in five different weight divisions, Benny "The Jet" Urquidez has remained undefeated for 27 years as the longest reigning World Champion ever. Unofficially retired from professional kickboxing in 1995, Sensei Benny Urquidez continues to teach martial arts at the Team Karate Centers in Woodland Hills and the Hayastan MMA Academy in North Hollywood, regularly works in the Hollywood film industry as an actor and fight choreographer, and travels the world with his wife, Sara Eaglewoman, as a spiritual teacher.

Excellent book! I couldn't put it down. I got it out of curiosity because I knew of Benny Urquidez when I went to North Hollywood High School at the same time he did. When I started reading I was impressed with Benny's openness and honesty about who he was and who he had become. This book gives you a view into the heart and mind of a world champion and a truly "one of a kind" individual. He was born with a gift that could have destroyed him if not properly harnessed. Benny Urquidez's martial arts accomplishments speak for themselves. The compelling part of the story for me however, was his conscious decision to pursue good. The goal of pursuing good was just as hard as his pursuits in martial arts. He had to fight for it and it didn't come easy. Its a story of courage and perseverance that is an inspiration to us all. Benny was great not only because he was a great and gifted fighter. He was great because he was good. This book has something for everyone no matter what walk of life they come from. really good book, I had to get it for a essay and it is really good reading.
Summarizes the life of one of the best professional fighters of all time. A very nostalgic read for me, having known the Urquidez family for 45 years.

This is a fantastic book. It's the birth of kickboxing through the eyes of its champion - Sensei Urquidez.
Tom and I are old adversaries concerning the details about the life of Bruce Lee but there is no criticism about this book. Beautifully written it is the life story of a true warrior who has overcome adversity to rise to the top of the martial arts. It is un-put-downable and I hold Tom and Benny personally responsible for my nearly missing my station on the train to work while I was so engrossed in my edition of this marvellous book. As an author I can only say I wish I had written it!
If you are a fan of Kickboxing you will like this book very much. Remember that this is the early age of American Kickboxing and the Japan scene, years before the K-1 worldwide explosion. The book is a nice read and it touches on The Jets deep spiritual path in his life and his family. But those who are looking for his fighting life will not be disappointed; there is plenty of his fighting career in this book to enjoy. One thing missing though, is the alleged controversy with the Gracie challenge, it would have been nice to hear The Jets's take on all the talk about it for so many years in the Martial Arts world.
